The Journey Home. Help Darcy recover from addiction.

Thank you for visiting.

My brother is 51 years old and has been addicted to opioids for over 10 years now. He suffered an accident many years ago for which he was prescribed opioids. He became severely addicted to them and has been battling addiction since.

He was a successful owner of a construction business, had a common law wife and a son. His addiction has cost him everything. He has tried to use the BC government system to become clean but it’s a system that does not work as you leave the treatment still addicted to either methadone or suboxone. It’s the main reason why people reuse. They leave treatments still addicts.

When my brother’s addiction became obvious to me I worked to help him. I have spent the last 7 years of my life trying to support him emotionally and financially to get him to turn his life around. I have tried to give him a future and something to look forward to. But this experience has taught me a couple things. One is that the addiction death grip is unbelievably tight. The other thing I learned is that addiction changes how you think. You lose your conscience. The only thing you can think about is how to get more drugs.

It is no longer about getting high it’s just about feeling normal. Once you are addicted, if you stop using, you become violently sick, anxious, you start hallucinating, and it’s an incredibly difficult thing to tolerate. My brother told me once that when he goes through that, the idea that all he has to do is take one little hoot and it all goes away. This is the incredibly powerful grip it has on you. It is truly the hand of Satan.

He has tried to do it on his own with his family doctor and addiction withdrawal medication. They try to treat you but then they throw you right back into the same environment, still addicted to drugs. Outpatient programs for the most part are complete and utter failure.

He had a spiritual moment, he felt a physical hand hand on his shoulder pushing him, literally everyday. Every time he would look back there was no one there. He couldn’t figure out what was going on. It bothered him for months, but he didn’t know what was going on.

After he decided he could no longer manage the addiction on his own, and submitted his life to those that can help him, He no longer felt the hand on his shoulder. It was a moment that has changed the course of his life.

He is ready to rid this evil from his body and his mind.

The program is 50 days long, and you leave the program completely clean. Most programs leave you still on methadone or suboxone. You are only replacing one addicting drug with another. This the main reason why people tend to reuse when they get out of treatment. They’re not really finished treatment. There’s still addicted when they leave.

This program works on your addiction and also on your mental health, it gets you off all drugs, not just the drugs you’re using. They also work on your mental health, and help guide you back into a normal life. His monitored 24 hours a day by professional doctors, nurses, addiction specialist and mental health specialists. It was ranked the top addiction treatment center in Canada.

We have given up expecting any help from the provincial government. I am now turning to my friends, family, and anyone who knows Darcy or wants to see him be successful. This program is expensive and I’m willing to pay for everything myself if I have to. I’m not sure how I’m going to do it but I will figure it out. My brother’s life is worth it.

All funds will be directed directly to the facility. They will be added as it beneficiary as soon as they get it set up on their end.

Thank you for visiting. I’ve always believed that by changing one life, you have changed the world.

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
