Terri Hicks is a devoted mom to four grown sons and a teenage daughter, and a loving “Gammy” to many grandchildren. Born and raised in Middle Georgia, Terri later spent about 15 years in Athens before returning home to care for her best friend’s aging father. Her family selflessly dropped everything to move in and support him in his final years. That house became their forever home—a place full of both treasured victories and deep sorrows.
Now, Terri is facing the fight of her life. At just 52 years old, she has been diagnosed with cancer, “malignant neoplasm sarcoma”. The tumor is aggressive—pressing on nerves and arteries, invading muscle, and attaching to bone—causing her intense pain. While it’s a fast-growing cancer, the good news is that it’s also very treatable. Terri will soon begin five weeks of daily radiation therapy to shrink the tumor. Once that phase is complete, she’ll undergo another MRI at Emory to determine the next steps, including a possible surgery.
Terri’s husband works full-time, and while his income supports the basics, the added burden of medical bills and lost income from Terri being unable to work is taking a toll. We’re starting this fundraiser to help ease that burden—covering medical expenses, household bills, and any other necessities to reduce her stress as she focuses on healing.
If you’re able to give, no matter the amount, it will mean the world. And if you can’t give financially, your prayers and positive thoughts are just as valuable to Terri and her family during this time.
Let’s rally around Terri as she fights this battle—one step, one treatment, and one prayer at a time.
