Hi, my name is Ashley Burelle, and I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my second family, who are going through something no family should ever have to face.
Recently, [Charley’s mom] Alyssa took her daughter Charley to the doctor after she began experiencing leg pain and started to limp. Initially, it was thought to be something minor — possibly needing physiotherapy. But during the physio assessment, a concerning lump was found near Charley’s pelvic area.
From there, everything changed.
An ultrasound revealed a 12cm mass, and Charley was immediately referred to CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) for further testing. The medical team there expressed serious concern, as the mass did not appear benign. An MRI later confirmed the tumor is actually 15cm in size, and since then, CHEO’s oncology team has stepped in to support Charley and her family.
Today, Charley is undergoing a biopsy and bone marrow testing to determine if it is malignant, its stage, and how best to treat it. For now, the plan is to begin chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before determining the next steps for removal. A diagnosis will be made once these results come in.
As you can imagine, this sudden and devastating news has turned the family’s world upside down. Charley’s parents are now juggling hospital stays, travel to and from CHEO, and preparing for the emotional and financial toll that comes next.
This fundraiser will help ease some of that burden. Funds will go toward:
• Travel expenses and accommodations for trips to CHEO
• Meals and daily living costs during extended hospital stays
• Out-of-pocket medical needs
• Supporting the family as they take time off work to be by Charley’s side
