Dear family, friends, and supporters,
It’s with a heavy heart that we, the Gouzidans family, share the news that my brother, Samil Gouzidans, needs your help. What began as a few mild symptoms of bad headaches that began in early January has led to continuous CTs and MRIs from the ER. After an appointment with an oncologist, he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 35. Samil has two high-grade large mass tumors embedded in the back of his brain. It’s an incredibly rare form of brain cancer, making the optimal treatment tactic difficult to discern.
For someone who already worked very hard and had his life planned out to enjoy life to the fullest, this news is devastating. He did everything right in life (a great career, college degree, and was planning to purchase his very first home). Suddenly, all of his wonderful and outstanding years of achieving his dreams and success have shattered within months. But because of his great spirit and determination, he fights every day. Anyone who knows Samil knows that he is a warrior and will not let cancer beat him.
Unfortunately, that’s only part of the battle. Large medical bills are quickly accumulating, while his insurance is rapidly running out due to him not being able to continue working during this time. Receiving chemotherapy creates further expenses and difficulties when transporting him to his treatment and appointments, covering his meds, and other daily living expenses. He has begun his second cycle of chemotherapy, but the aggressiveness of his cancer calls for a hefty chemotherapy plan that requires him to be hospitalized 5-7 days every cycle. He still has 3-4 months to go and likely more tests and treatments ahead of him.
Due to the difficulty of ongoing treatment for the cancer, Samil has also joined the fight against cancer organization. We’re also having a consult with one of the most known oncologists in New York to figure out the treatment that he hopes will be the most reliable and optimal. But this will require additional medical expenses for more biopsies, scans, and genomic sequencing. Alternative housing options that are more accessible and provide proper care for his needs are unaffordable, even under normal circumstances. We’re doing everything we can to keep him in Maryland with his medical team and everything he’s worked so hard for.
Samil and our family are so blessed by those who have already shown support through prayer and seminars from church. We kindly thank you and ask you to continue showing love and support to Samil on his journey to fight against cancer.
