As our Dad was lining up to walk down the aisle for Zach (his only son’s) wedding in Charlottesville, VA, he collapsed in Zach’s arms. He immediately exhibited signs of stroke and was lucky to have an ambulance onsite within 25 minutes. We later found out our Dad was conscious during this horrifying experience but was unable to communicate. The cerebral artery had collapsed (dissection) causing the clot, which was removed in a life-saving emergency surgery within 2.5h of his first symptoms. The doctors said most people who experience this type of clot die so we are immensely grateful to still have our Dad but he has a long road to recovery with potential for 2 more weeks even past the time he’s currently spending in the hospital to stabilize him. Since this occurred out of state we’ve had to rent hotel rooms, buy meals, and other supplies to be able to stay with my Dad. We are facing the decision of paying thousands of dollars to get him home for rehab or staying in Virginia for more weeks to ensure his rehab is covered by insurance. After rehab there will be months of PT and missed work for him and our family to take care of him. To help with all the financial burden, as well as the very high insurance deductible from this emergency occurring out of network we’d like to ask for your support to help ease the burden for our family.
