Julian McIntyre
Hello, my name is Julian McIntyre I am 14 years old I live in Southern California near the desert area. Everything started as a typical day I felt sick the best way to describe my symptoms is I felt like I had the flu. My mother took me to a nearby hospital where I was told I had the flu and let out within 4 hours. Unfortunately, this would not be the ending. I continued with my flu like symptoms body aches, head aches, and back pain for another two months of no answers. Somedays I felt good and out of nowhere I would feel sick again. My mom then decided to take me Loma Linda Hospital where they told me I had Valley fever. My mother was happy to finally get a diagnosis, but what we didn’t know was how severe the Valley fever infection was. It rapidly attacked my lungs causing me to be in a coma for more than 30 days. I lost about 40 pounds! The chances of me surviving were really low and my mother said she “prays that no other families have to go through this” We are now on our third month here at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital and we are here still trying to control the infection and dealing with new complications that have arise. I’m thankful to still be here. In addition, I’m so thankful for the love and support from my family and friends. My mother has not left my bedside this entire three months I’ve been here. My father is at home with my other siblings and the bills are piling up. I know if we work together my parents can continue to support me through these hard time and be here for me emotionally. Finally, we need your help. Not only has this been a hardship physically & emotionally but it’s become a financial burden for my family. We are here to ask that you please help us we need prayer and financial support, anything helps. Lastly, we also need to spread awareness on Valley fever. What is a Valley Fever? It is a fungal infection caused by inhaling spores of the fungus in high dry locations. If you live in deserts areas & your home has more dirt than homes you are most likely you may be at risk. Please be the voice for your children if they have flu like symptoms please speak up for them. Thank you for listening to my story and I truly appreciate all the support.
