In the summer of 2018, I traveled to Kenya and met a little boy named Gift Fadhili, who was just four years old at the time. We became fast friends and formed a special bond. Since then, my family and I have supported Gift through Chosen Children of Promise (CCP), an organization that provides education and vital resources to children and their families in Nairobi. Through CCP, Gift attends school, and his guardian, Violet, receives ongoing support. In 2019 I got to visit the Fadhili family again and in 2023, my dad and brother had the chance to visit CCP and meet Gift in person.
At nine, he was full of life, bright-eyed, energetic, a talented dancer, and thriving in school with a passion for music and drama.
Sadly, earlier this year, Gift was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer. He’s now 11 years old and undergoing his third round of chemotherapy at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. His treatment plan includes eight rounds of chemo, followed by imaging and then an above-the-knee amputation. At the time of writing, his surgery is expected to take place in about a month.
As you can imagine, this diagnosis has been devastating for Gift, Violet, and their community. While most of his chemotherapy is covered by the Kenyan government, the surgery and prosthetic fitting are not. The total cost is $15,000… an overwhelming amount for his guardian to manage alone.
This is where we can help.
If you’re able, please consider making a donation. Every dollar goes directly toward Gift’s surgery and recovery.
Ways to give:
• For a tax-deductible donation: CCP partners with a U.S.-based nonprofit called Lifehouse. 100% of donations passed through Lifehouse go directly to Gift’s medical care. If you’re interested, please reach out to Charlotte or Ray and we will send you the simple instructions.
• Prefer fundraiser? You can also donate here (note: not tax-deductible).
• Mail a check: If needed, I can also process a donation on your behalf—please reach out directly to coordinate.
Other ways to support:
• Share this message with friends and family—spreading the word is powerful.
• Pray for Gift, Violet, and their community as they face the road ahead.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Gift’s story. Your kindness and generosity can truly change his life.
With gratitude,
Charlotte & Ray Stradley
