Gabby and JJ have had a rough time starting in April when Gabby had to go to the ER as she was having what appeared to be a cardiac event. After an EKG, chest X-ray, labs, and an Ultrasound she was diagnosed with gallstones and would need surgery to remove her gallbladder. She was seen in early-mid May for a consult with a general surgeon who confirmed surgery was recommended, preferably soon as she continued to have pain and discomfort. Please also know that she was prescribed oxycodone for pain but would only take it if pain was severe as she was unable to to work while on the medication. She has surgery on the 22nd of May, unable to work the week of due to another gallbladder attack that weekend prior, she was to be out of work for 3 weeks. Currently, she is unable to receive PTO or any other benefits as she has to be employed at her job for 6 months, which isn’t until August 2025.
Two weeks after surgery, the PA to her general surgeon urged her to only go back part-time for two weeks due to continued post-operative pain and fatigue. However, that Saturday (before returning to work) she went to an ER due to left arm pain, swelling and warmth to the touch. She was diagnosed with a DVT (blood clot) after receiving an ultrasound as her D-Dimer results were elevated, and started on Eliquis (blood thinner) which cost $200. She returned to the ER Monday due to worsening symptoms: numbness/tingling in fingers along with weakness in her hand/arm. She was told to also start ibuprofen and it was discovered, after an another ultrasound, she had a superficial clot along with the previously diagnosed DVT in her left arm. The ER provider excused her from work for the rest of the week.
Gabby had to return to the ER that Thursday after her a vascular surgeon (who advised the visit) consult as she was feeling dizzy, weak, and was having an extremely heavy menstrual cycle. At arrival, she was told the ER copay was $317. She was hooked up to IV fluids, had labs, and a CT due to increased abdominal pain. Luckily, all results were normal although she continues to feel fatigued and weak.
So far, she’s gone four weeks without working and medical bills are adding up. Her husband, JJ, has been her main caretaker and has been able to work throughout most of it. However, due to cost of living and the unexpected medical bills, financial assistance is needed. However much you are able to donate, they are extremely grateful for. This has been a shock for the both of them and their families. Gabby and JJ got married in October of last year, they were hoping to work on their home and take a few trips to enjoy/celebrate the beginning of their lives together.
Please donate and help them overcome this sudden obstacle.
