Support Deima’s Recovery Journey After Tragic Incident
Hi everyone, my name is Gabi Torna and I’m starting a fundraiser for my aunt Deima. These donations will help her with her medical bills which are currently exceeding $500,000. She went shopping at St. Matthew’s House thrift store in Naples, Florida on April 10th and didn’t know that this day would change her life. Deima thought she’d have to amputate her right foot after the crash. Her jaw is broken, 6 of her ribs are fractured, and both of her feet are injured leaving her unable to walk independently. Deima’s been in recovery for over 2 months. She’s had over 14 surgeries on her injuries so far, including a tendon and muscle implant on her right foot. The doctors reconstructed both ankles and had to complete a skin graft using skin from her thigh. A nurse visits daily to inject an IV and clean her wounds. This traumatic event caused many difficulties for both my aunt and uncle.
She was released from the hospital on June 4th and her husband, Julio, hasn’t been able to work since the incident and continues to support her physically and mentally. Julio hasn’t left her side throughout her recovery and continues to help her with daily personal care activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, transferring, and much more. They currently don’t have a steady income to pay for their monthly bills and need your help to get back on their feet.
My aunt is a happy, compassionate person who loves to cook, dance, travel, garden and is unable to do all the things she loves. This crash has changed her life completely and it will never be the same. She hopes to regain mobility and strength in her feet so that she can go back to living independently. Any amount you can give will go directly to her medical expenses and support services such as physical therapy and assistive devices.
If you’re unable to donate, we completely understand — please SHARE this page with others who might be able to help. This means the world to us.
Thank you for your generosity, support, and prayers.
With gratitude,
Gabi Torna
