My disabled human needs help and even I, a cat, is at lost!

Humans! Hi 🙂

My name is Éclipse and I’m 4 years old. Also, I’m a cat. The best one. Apparently, I’m everywhere in my human’s conversations and in the notes of my human’s medical team – as it should be, of course.

However, I feel that my considerable help and expertise might not be enough to make my human happy all the time again and it worries me.

Here’s the thing. They’re a rescue. They were in a really, really bad shape when I chose them, and – it’s quite humiliating, given my impressive qualifications – it has worsen ever since. I tried everything at paw, but I have to admit it might go beyond what a fluffy ball like me can take care of.

I heard them saying they won the jackpot at the lottery of life, but weirdly they weren’t laughing. They talked about autism, ADHD, giftedness, borderline personnality disorder, PTSD, C-PTSD and now, incapacipating cognitive damage – all on top of their (less disabilitating) physical illnesses. Apparently, the public health system and the public social services don’t help people like my human, or scandalously not enough. Their case, in particular, appears to be too “complicated” and “heavy”.

From what I understood, it would be easier for my human if their legs were paralyzed: nobody would dare to say they lack motivation and efforts so that’s it’s their own doing if they can’t walk, or that the use of a wheelchair would compromise their journey towards autonomy. But my human’s difficulties are in their head, so so‐called health professionals (yes, plural) have the absolute audacity to say those horrible things to them – that it’s their fault, that they don’t try enough and that the accommodations they ask because they need it would jeopardize their future autonomy. Anyway, most services are not accessible to people without a motor disability, so my human is usually already not qualifying. That’s a huge problem, but that discussion will be for another day.

You know, my human used to have a magnificent career: they were in HR for over two decades, they specialized in neuroinclusion/DEIA and had prestigious clients and projects all over the world, they were hired as a part‐time professor in university, they were a scholar, they even began their PhD… and then BOOM, they crashed, because the violence they suffered mostly at home all their life (and its impacts) was suddenly too much to bear. Well, actually, it was also because of many, many other reasons – my human never got an easy life and tried so hard to overcome the obstacles they continually faced on their path. But the violence they had to endure? That’s what destroyed them the most.

Recently they finally found an expert in neuropsychology who has the vast and rare knowledge that is necessary to correctly assess them. That was pure magic. It took a year and a half just to find her… and this unicorn aka expert accepted my human as her client; we cried, that day, and for once those were happy tears.

The problem is, the provincial organisation supposed (the important word here is “supposed”) to support the recovery of the victims of a crime, like my human, decided they won’t pay a dime because it is an assessment, not rehabilitation. But rehabilitation (and recovery, for that matter) is definitely out of reach without this assessment, for numerous and serious reasons.

My human is already creating miracles to pay all their bills on time, without any access to credit; they’ve been for a couple of years now. They’re exhausted. They don’t have any more ideas. And new bills (like my own: I have asthma and a minor kidney condition, so I need a bit of professional care once in a while) and new medical issues continue to add up, it’s a never‐ending process. They just can’t afford this assessment, or even those new bills. They desesperately need the assessment to get a bit of hope and, well, to have a little chance to put their life back on track, but it costs money they don’t have.

Therefore, I ask for your help. In return you’ll get more and more pictures (or even videos!) of my beautiful self, I promise. It’s the least I can do. I will continue, obviously, to purr, give hugs and generally speaking accomplish my sacred mission towards my human while you do what humans do when one of them is in dire need. That’s the deal I offer to you. I hope you’ll accept it.

Thanks for your most appreciated assistance,

Éclipse

(Solène is my human’s name, as you can imagine. fundraiser, strangely, wouldn’t accept mine on the profile.)

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
