Hello friends & family. Where do I begin…
It’s Cassandra Wells – mother of Erica Wells (Mama Wells to some). I’m new to this type of fundraising effort and have been hesitant to do this, but we need help. Let me tell you about your friend/my daughter, Erica – who is going through and dealing with the biggest challenge/health ordeal of her life!
Due to complications from her diabetes, Erica has lost most of her vision (diabetic retinopathy) and has had kidney failure (now undergoing dialysis 3 times a week). To further complicate matters, she has to deal with other health conditions, such as high blood pressure, gastroparesis, sciatica pain, and chronic neuropathy pain. In addition to that, she is currently recovering from a right leg tibia fracture (also known as a broken shinbone) due to her bone health being compromised by diabetes as well – so now she is wheelchair-bound while healing. Words cannot express how truly heartbreaking it is watching your child endure things like this. She battles depression and anxiety and would be mortified that I am putting all her business out there like this.
We have been hoping and praying for things to improve, but it does not seem to be happening. No one likes to admit that they can’t handle something or don’t have it together, but it’s been very hard. Hard getting back and forth to dialysis, and hard getting to the many/numerous doctor appointments – especially with a wheelchair involved (and no car), but we do the best we can with Paratransit and Uber/Lyft, which is costly/adds up. Expenses are high and money is low – especially since I had to make the decision of quitting my job to become a full-time caregiver for Erica. It became too overwhelming trying to do both.
My goal here is to try to get a handle on the many accumulated expenses (including medicine, supplies, etc.) and to maybe/hopefully find decent transportation with a used car. Hopefully, something without too many mechanical issues. Just something reliable to get us from point A to point B, C, D, E, and beyond. I know we all have our own personal struggles – especially these days, but ANY help that you could provide (or God sees fit to send our way) would be greatly appreciated!
