Fifteen years ago, Brett was a happy, energetic 10 year old who loved school and had great aspirations for becoming an aerospace engineer. Suddenly, those dreams stalled when a virus decided to land in the left ventricle of his heart. Just before his 11th birthday, he received a new heart. In the years that have passed, Brett continued to excel academically (all the way to Calculus 7!) He even became a gourmet cook in middle school and helped to make dreams come true for other very ill children by volunteering his time.
Heart palpitations caught his attention and landed him in the ER recently. Stanford docs have discovered that Brett’s arteries are 90% blocked and three of the 4 heart chambers are not functioning properly. Technically, it’s Coronary Artery Disease, a side effect of the immune suppression drugs. Late last week, Brett underwent a 6-hour surgery to have a balloon pump installed to assist with keeping his arteries open.
Brett is currently back on the transplant list. And, a permanent hospital resident until that transplant takes place. It could be three months, it could be a year. As you can imagine, the hospital bills are expected to be well into six-figures.
At 24, Brett still has many dreams to achieve. He was recently promoted to Assistant Manager and is finding his place in the world. He is not yet done contributing to our collective space.
Will you help us cover these upcoming expenses? Your generous gifts will alleviate the heavy burden Brett and his family are carrying. They will be able to focus on Brett’s recovery and plan for his future.
Thank you so much.
