Hi, my name is Walt DaSilva.
I’ve been battling Chronic Osteomyelitis, a horrible bone infection, for over 3.5 years now, after a small injury to the bottom of my right foot, which penetrated the bone.
I’ve had multiple surgeries to try and eradicate this disease, but it has once again come back and has spread throughout the remaining bones in my foot.
After discussing it with my team of doctors at Houston Methodist, I have decided to get aggressive in fighting this disease!
On 6/24/25, my orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jason Ahuero, will be amputating my leg below the knee.
I’m doing this because I need a radical open-heart surgery immediately afterward.
I will be undergoing what is called a “Ross Procedure,” a new technique where both of my heart valves will be replaced with human biological valves. Dr. Marvin Atkins is one of the leading heart surgeons in America on this procedure, and I am blessed to have him on my cardiovascular team!
Both of these life-changing surgeries will put me down and out for at least the next 10 months of my life.
Through physical therapy, I will be learning how to walk again with a prosthetic leg, plus recovering from open-heart surgery just a few months after my amputation.
It’s going to be tough, but I am determined to stay positive and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate life every day!
I started this page to help my family and I pay for our ever-so-quickly rising medical expenses, basic bills, food, medications, and travel expenses while I am recovering. ❤️
If you can’t donate $5, that’s ok!
Just please share this with your friends and followers on social media. Every bit of support means the world to me!
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to get to know my story and support my healing journey!
