Please Help Our Dad, Ron Newton, Recover After a Life-Changing Accident
On June 18th, our dad, Ron Newton, was struck from behind while riding his road bike. It is still being investigated, but from what we know so far, the vehicle was driving at least 45 mph. It was a terrifying, life-altering moment for our family — but by some miracle, he survived. His injuries, however, are extremely serious, and the road to recovery will be long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult. He is the most active person and loves hunting and hiking the mountains. He loves being outdoors and his physical health is so important to him. He rides more than 20 miles on his bike every day and will also hike the mountains early in the morning.
Ron is currently in the ICU with extensive, traumatic injuries: a collapsed lung and multiple broken ribs, requiring a chest tube to help him breathe; a large head wound and an arterial brain bleed; major injuries to his left arm, including a severe elbow dislocation, significant ligament damage, and open fractures to both the radius and ulna. His surgery was long and complex, and he’ll be in a splint, then a custom brace, for weeks to prevent further damage.
The most critical injury is to his right leg: an open tibia/fibula type 3A fracture. The bone came through the skin, causing a deep and dangerous wound. Doctors have stabilized it with an external fixation device and a wound vacuum, but the damage is extensive.
In the coming weeks, doctors will monitor his healing to determine the next steps — whether he’ll need a skin graft, a bone-shortening surgery, or, in the worst-case scenario, an amputation below the knee. They are doing everything possible to avoid that outcome, but it remains a real risk.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Ron is the sole provider for our family, which includes our mom and children still at home. He will be unable to work for many months while he recovers, which puts a tremendous financial strain on our household.
We are raising funds to help cover emergency medical care and surgeries, rehabilitation and physical therapy, travel for specialized treatments, household bills, groceries, and daily living expenses, and any long-term medical support he may need.
How You Can Help
Our dad is one of the strongest people we know. He’s resilient, determined, and doing everything he can to fight through this. But he can’t do it alone. He is always serving and helping others no matter what the circumstance.
If you’re able to donate, share this page, or simply keep him in your thoughts and prayers, we are so grateful. Every bit of support helps us focus on what matters most: helping Ron heal and come home.
Thank you for standing with our family during the hardest time of our lives.
With love and hope,
The Newton Family
