We are looking for support caring for my youngest brother who is disabled with severe cognitive impairment, PTSD and other mental illness, and Poland Syndrome, which means he was born without his left hand. He struggles with remembering important details or events and needs help with daily life tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and socialization.
He is not able to live alone independently and needs daily assistance from others. I have been visiting him multiple times a day, limiting my ability to work or care for others in my family. I have complex trauma myself. We are struggling with a limited income and not having enough people to care for him. There are no social services to support him in the way he needs, and many people in my family are also disabled, so we are limited in our capacity to support him.
He did not get educational support in school for his special needs or occupational therapy. He experienced extreme violence that left him traumatized with many physical issues. We need help funding a prosthetic hand that is able to be used for holding objects. His health insurance did not cover it, and now he is not able to get Medicaid due to government regulations. We are having issues with care only on Medicare for reimbursement.
