My 14-year-old son, Jeremiiah, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and it’s been a challenging journey for our family. Recently, we were able to get him an insulin pump, which is a huge step forward in helping him manage his diabetes. With this pump, Jeremiiah can have more freedom in his daily life—he won’t have to prick his finger or give himself a shot every time he eats. This means he can focus more on being a teenager and less on the constant demands of his condition.
To make the most of his new insulin pump and Dexcom 7 continuous glucose monitor, Jeremiiah needs a compatible phone. Unfortunately, his current phone isn’t able to connect to these devices, and we need to get him a new one before July 2nd, when we’ll be attending a class at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to learn how to use the pump. Our insurance doesn’t cover these types of devices, so we’ve been paying out of pocket for everything that isn’t covered. We haven’t received much outside support, and the costs are adding up quickly.
This fundraiser will help us purchase a phone that will become Jeremiiah’s medical device, allowing him to safely and effectively manage his diabetes. Your support will make a real difference in his health and independence, and it will mean so much to our family as we navigate this new chapter. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing our story to help us reach more people.
