My husband, David Ayscue, has been suffering from a mysterious and devastating illness for over six years. Despite countless doctor visits and tests, we still don’t have answers. David is now in starvation stage I, weighing under 90 pounds, and relies on a feeding tube that hasn’t helped him gain weight. His days are filled with pain, weakness, and constant nausea. He can no longer do routine tasks around the house or find enjoyment in anything. Most of the responsibilities at home have fallen to me, and our daughter, Kai, who was born with three rare syndromes, also needs care. Both Kai and I are disabled, and David has always been our rock—an incredible father and husband who has supported us through everything.
We’ve reached a point where local doctors have done all they can, and we’ve been told that Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore is our best hope. Unfortunately, Medicaid won’t cover the travel, food, or temporary housing costs we’ll face to get David there for treatment. Additionally, we may need to cover some medical costs ourselves if Medicaid doesn’t cover them. Without help, David risks progressing to Starvation Stage II, which could mean organ failure. Getting him to Johns Hopkins could finally give us answers, help David regain his health, and allow our family to rebuild our lives. Your support will help cover the essential costs to get David the care he desperately needs and give our family hope for the future.
