Hey, my name is Kalen Wadley, and in the summer of 2022, I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure at the age of 23. This is something you would never think would happen. I’ve been managing getting my medicine and going to the doctors. I work in the childcare setting with younger kids.

Fast forward to this summer, I went to a doctor’s appointment, and they informed me that they think it’s time to get a defibrillator. The doctor explained to me that I would be getting a subcutaneous defibrillator; this one is less invasive than the traditional one. They use this one with their younger patients, and this one is going to be used as a safety net because my Ejection Fraction (EF) is in the 20%-30%, which means my heart is working overtime. I am waiting on the doctors to call me with a date for this surgery. I’m trying to go ahead and prepare for the downtime and being off from work because I’m not going to be able to play with them or pick them up for a little while.
