I’ve had the deep honor of knowing and loving Janelle, my Judy, for over eight years. Over that time, we’ve grown together, built a legacy through TRANScend Retreat, and shared countless moments of joy, resistance, and vision.
Janelle is a powerhouse—an unwavering advocate, community builder, and truth-teller whose commitment to collective liberation runs deep.
I’ve watched her pour into others time and time again, creating spaces where trans folks can breathe, thrive, and be held.
Now, I’m fundraising on her behalf so she can receive that same care in return. Below is a letter from Janelle sharing what she’s asking for and how you can support her healing.
“Hi community,
My name is Janelle (she/they/QUEEN), and I’m reaching out with deep vulnerability and hope. In just a few weeks, I’ll be undergoing a long-awaited gender affirming surgery, a life-saving, life-affirming step in my journey as a Black trans woman. This surgery will bring me closer to feeling whole in my body and spirit, but the costs are overwhelming.
I’m fundraising $10,000 to cover what insurance won’t, including medical costs, post-op care, and time off for rest and healing.
As someone who has spent years building community, advocating for trans rights, supporting others through crisis, and creating spaces of care and joy, asking for help isn’t easy. But part of my healing is being willing to receive support in the same ways I’ve offered it.
What Your Support Covers:
• Out-of-pocket medical expenses
• Medical supplies and prescriptions
• Rent and essential bills during recovery
• Meals, transportation, and home care support
• Physical therapy and follow-up appointments
Whether you can give $5, $50, or simply share this with your people, I’m deeply grateful. Every bit helps ease the burden and brings me closer to healing.
If you’ve ever been impacted by my work — whether through a kind word, a safe space, a resource shared, or a moment of joy created. I ask for your support now as I take this step toward deeper alignment and embodiment.
Thank you for holding me. Thank you for believing in my becoming.
With love and power,
Janelle”
