Hi! I’m a teacher of 26 years who started as a founding teacher for Discovery Schools Flex (formerly Fusion) Health Sciences Academy in the 2024-2025 school year teaching mathematics to students in grades 5-8 and Algebra 1 Honors. I LOVE ❤️ the role I have with our new virtual-hybrid school and am so excited as we expand to grades 4-10, covering the entire state of Louisiana this next school year! While I have times I’m working with students in-person, I also have a lot of desk time delivering high-quality math instruction and tutoring our students from my office.
What’s novel about that you say? Oh! I can stand and I can sit but I had a bad car accident in the fall of 2024! (I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan, if you caught the connection!) I have 7 severely damaged discs in my spine from the car accident. I do everything I should and love my ice therapy, but sitting at my work station or just general back pain is the new-normal for the rest of my life.
I believe a research-based ergonomic desk chair will be very helpful to extend the years I can continue serving students and families. Most of my time is spent in one, main office. A high-quality, ergonomic, desk chair is expensive and schools can only afford so much with tax dollars. I am asking for donations to purchase a high-quality, ergonomic office chair so that I can avoid as much pain as possible and consume as little ibuprofen and muscle relaxers as possible!
