Help Bring My Mother Stability and Quality Care in Colombia
My name is Summer Dugger and I’m reaching out to you today with a heartfelt plea for support for my beloved mother, Jacquelyn Dugger. At 78 years old, Mom is living with Alzheimer’s disease, and her needs have progressed to the point where she requires full-time residential care.
Earlier this year, we made a life-changing decision to move to Colombia, South America. My hope was to find a place where Mom could receive high-quality, compassionate care that was also financially sustainable. After extensive research, Colombia presented itself as an ideal solution. The cost of residential memory care here is remarkably more affordable, averaging around $600 per month compared to the staggering $10,000 per month we faced in the United States. Beyond the cost, the quality of care, the delicious and nutritious food, and the warmer climate have all contributed to a significant improvement in Mom’s overall well-being. She is truly enjoying her new home in Colombia, and we’ve seen positive shifts in her health since our move.
However, we’ve encountered a critical hurdle. To secure her long-term stay and access essential services, Mom needs to obtain a Pensioner’s Visa in Colombia. A key requirement for this visa is medical insurance. Due to her age, insurance providers require a full year’s premium to be paid upfront, making it a substantial, unexpected expense. This upfront payment of $3000 is a significant financial challenge for us as well as the savings requirement of $1200.
This is where we desperately need your help.
Our goal is to raise $7,000 USD to cover:
One year of required medical insurance for her Pensioner’s Visa.
Moving expenses to the Residential Home.
Furniture for her room.
New Clothes for Mom (healthy eating in Colombia has cause us both to lose weight)
Initial residential memory care expenses to ensure a smooth transition and continued high-quality care.
Without this visa, our only recourse would be to return to the United States. While Medicaid facilities exist, the level of personalized care, the nurturing environment, and the excellent food that Mom is currently receiving in Colombia would simply not be available. We are deeply committed to providing her with the best possible quality of life, especially in these challenging years.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to securing Mom’s future in a place where she is thriving and receiving the compassionate care she deserves. Your generosity will directly impact her comfort, well-being, and stability.
Please consider contributing to our campaign and sharing Mom’s story with your friends and family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and support.
With immense gratitude,
Summer Dugger
